Fontana Southridge Series Winter Wrap-Up
A blazing hot March Sunday saw a total of 28 trialsinners converge on the popular Southridge Park for the final in the Winter series biketrials events. Unusual 80 degree temperatures caused more than a few riders to comment on the exhausting and draining effort needed to finish 3 loops of the trials.
As has become usual practice, pro rider Shaun Miller set the sections with zeal and enthusiasm, creating tricky and technical obstacles for all classes. In addition, the day was wrapped up with a raffle of left-over prizes, with many of the assembled riders taking home goodies. The ultimate prize drawn was for the beginner/sport riders...a Tank Stock class single speed trials bike, donated by Tank, through the efforts of BikeTrials.com's Stephen Maeder & Shaun Miller. A happy Manning Yuan, of the L.A. Knights/UCLA Trials squad was the lucky winner. Editor's note: Manning plans to have this bike available for beginners to use at the famous Wednesday night 7 pm UCLA "L.A. Knights" group rides. More info here.
The next Fontana gathering is June 13th, however, the nearby NATS National in Lake Isabella, the Keyesville Classic will be held May 8-9, and is a must-be-at for any Cali, Arizona or New Mexico riders.
Speaking of out of town visitors, Tryall America's Graham Wilhelm rode his 3rd trials event today, coming out from Colorado, while Arizonans Kevin Rothman, Billy Hendrickson, Mike Warnock & Frank Loro also made the long haul. New Mexico's Nathan Heronen made today's event a true quad state event! We even had a first time trialsinner, from Visalia, Nic Gross conquering the Beginner Stock class, even managing to ride a clean section in his first event! Hope you'll be back for more, Nic!
A big thanks to checkers, Shaun Miller, Ian Hoffman, Daisuke Koya, Maribel Sturtevant, Jeff (Kris Scrivens friend), and a couple others, who I didn't get to see. My apologies. As always, thanks to Shaun Miller for setting up great sections.
